This Umbrella Agreement (hereinafter referred to as the "Agreement" or "Umbrella Agreement") shall be for the purpose of enhancing the long-standing relationship between JSC and Rice University. In 1961, Rice agreed to provide NASA access to one thousand acres of land for the establishment of the Manned Spacecraft Center in Houston, Texas. Rice sold the land to the government to build the Center in 1962. Since that time, JSC has collaborated with Rice on a number of successful educational and research initiatives including the International Space Medical Summit, Jesse H. Jones Graduate School of Management Graduate Student Internship Program, Arc-Jet Technology Conferences, Radiotherapy Research Symposiums, Carbon Nanotube activities, the Richard Smalley Institute for Nanoscale Science and Technology, the Rice Alliance for Technology and Entrepreneurship and a partnership agreement for the Professional Science Masters in Space Studies.
