WHEREAS it is the intent and purpose of both the Company and the Union to set forth herein the basic agreement covering rates of pay, hours of work and conditions of employment to be observed between the parties hereto and to provide procedure for prompt, equitable adjustment of alleged grievancesarising from the interpretation of this agreement and whereas it is understood that close cooperation be- tween the Company and the Union towards the success of the Com- pany mutually benefits both parties.
