It is accepted that the Working Time Regulations 1998 (as amended) are an important piece of legislation in terms of health and safety. It is also accepted that the nature of police work means that certain activities inevitably conflict with the provisions of these regulations. While Gwent Police is committed to accepting the requirements of the Working Time Regulations, certain derogations have been agreed with the Police Federation by means of this Workforce Agreement in order to ensure the continued operational efficiency and effectiveness of the force. The Working Time Regulations may be modified or excluded by virtue of Regulation 23
