Attached is a proposed agreement for a new Light Emitting Diode (LED) streetlight initiative with MidAmerican Energy Company (MEC). The conversion is slated to start in 2017 and be phased- in through 2020. This initiative has been in place in Iowa for several years, but approval in Illinois was only recently achieved. Lower lighting costs, fewer outages and maintenance issues, and more direct lighting, thus reducing unnecessary light pollution, are just a few of the benefits of converting from High Pressure Sodium (HPS) to LED. The agreement allows for the following two options:
