The 1989 AAPL Form 610 JOA is the most pervasive operating agreement in use today. Many operators are still using this form in horizontal plays despite approval of the AAPL Form 610-2015 for horizontal wells. Of currently producing wells that are subject to a JOA, the vast majority operate under the 1989 form. So despite the approval of the 2015 form, land professionals will be dealing with the 1989 form for many years to come.
