The agreement sets the legal framework for the presence of U.S. troops in Poland. The adopted principles are based to a large extent on regulations common to all NATO members, i.e. the NATO SOFA agreement of 1951, which Poland adopted with its mem- bership in the North Atlantic Alliance.
