During the El Storms of 1998 the property (APN 028-234-08, Avenue) which is adjacent to the Avenue Stairway Project, sustained heavy damage from the high surf. The property is owned by Wendell Chambers. After 7 years of going through the permit process, Mr. Chambers has secured authorization from the Coastal Commission and the County to repair the damage to his property. The primary damage is the failure of the underlying support for the deck overlook and retaining wall. The deck is currently being held together by a temporary suspension system. The existing concrete columns have failed and are no longer supporting the deck.
