This memorandum explains a proposed settlement agreement with the United States Department of Justice (DOJ). As the Board may recall from past executive session updates, ASD has been under investigation by the DOJ with regard to its use of restraint and seclusion. Data indicated that ASD’s use of seclusion rooms in certain schools (primarily the SBBS elementary programs and Whaley school) resulted in some of the highest use of seclusion in the nation as compared to peer school districts.
