Expectations  The student and PI have discussed possible rotation projects  Resources and space are available in the lab to support the rotation project  The student and PI have discussed the possibility of returning to this lab for the thesis project (with regard to space, funding, project). Tip: Work in three different labs to compare best fit.  The PI will have sufficient time available to work directly with the student in the capacity of a mentor • The PI will work with the student to outline a reasonable project for the time allotted and together define specific achievable goals • The PI will meet with the student regularly (brief daily, or at least weekly meetings) • The PI will suggest appropriate journal articles, background reading, seminars, career development materials, etc • The PI will encourage the student and facilitate interactions with other scientists when appropriate for the project  The student will spend the majority of his/her time during
