Under the Education Act, youth must attend school until the age of 18, and employers are prohibited from employing youth during school hours UNLESS the student is approved to be excused from school to pursue employment. Youth, 14 to 17 years old may be excused from school to attend Supervised Alternative Learning programs which may include Employment (Education Act, ss. 21 and 30, Ontario Regulation 374/10 “Supervised Alternative Learning and Other Excusals from Attendance at School”).
