The General Services Department and County Administrative have negotiated an agreement with the Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds for the use of the fairgrounds during County declared disasters. This thirty-year agreement allows the County to use the fairgrounds during County declared disasters and for up to 650 days over the course of the agreement for disaster response, coordination, staging and purposes. Additionally, the agreement provides for the County to use the fairgrounds for public safety training purposes fifteen days year of the agreement at no additional cost upon appropriate notification. The structure of the agreement is based on the 1996 agreement between the County and the Community Center, which is also used for similar response and public safety training purposes. In exchange for this usage, the County is providing the fairgrounds with a one-time sum of which will be used toward the construction costs of a new kitchen the design of which is geared toward feeding of shelt
