• Improving the availability, reporting and quality of data on births and deaths generated from civil registration and health information systems is a key priority for the Pacific Islands. This is because of the importance of accurate data on deaths (including causes of death) for planning and statistical purposes; for monitoring progress against national and regional health and development targets and monitoring effective policies and programmes.
