Agreement on the Conservation of Albatrosses and PetrelsNovember 4th, 2022
FiledNovember 4th, 2022Originally described as Diomedea immutabilis (Rothschild 1893), the American Ornithologist’s Union (AOU) temporarily placed the three north Pacific albatrosses in the subgenus Phoebastria [1, 2]. Genetic analysis supported the former designation of the genus Phoebastria [3], a classification that was subsequently adopted by the AOU [4]. There are no recognized subspecies [5]. P. immutabilis and P. nigripes do hybridize but there is no evidence for successful breeding by a hybrid [5].
