Psychotherapy (1 time per week), psychoanalytic psychotherapy (2 times per week), and TeleTherapy [henceforth, collectively referred to as “therapy”] offer unique opportunities for patients to not only experience symptom relief, but also the ability to work through many of the issues that led to the troubling symptoms in the first place. In this process, patient and therapist develop a relationship that can be used as a vehicle for change and growth so that long-standing struggles can become a part of the patient’s story rather than a central determinant or a overwhelming reminder of painful experiences and traumas. Increasing frequency of appointments allows a deepening of the therapeutic process and greater potential for long-lasting change. By using the unique therapeutic relationship as a means of deeper understanding and experience, the patient and psychotherapist are able to work through many ongoing, seemingly insurmountable troubles.
