THE AGREEMENT ON INTERNAL TRADE: TAKING STOCK AFTER THREE YEARSThe Agreement • April 29th, 2003
Contract Type FiledApril 29th, 2003Last July 1st the Agr eement on Internal Trade (AIT) celebrated its second birt hday. The date - t he same day as Canada’s birthday - is no coincidence. This symbo lism is entirely appropriate as the AIT is an important building block in keeping our country strong and united. If Canadians are not free to buy and sell their go ods and services, to pract ise their professions and trades, and to invest on equal terms from coast to coast, how can they be expected to have a sense of belonging to the whole country and not to just their province or territory? How can our country expect to remain united?
