NC-SARA is a national initiative making distance education courses more accessible to students across state lines, as well as making it easier for states to regulate and institutions to participate in interstate distance education. At the October 2014 Board meeting, the Board approved the original version of Board Policy 1:29 β State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement (SARA). This policy emerged as the State of South Dakota joined NC-SARA; in addition, an executive order of the Governor designated the Board of Regents as SARA State Portal Entity for South Dakota.
