STIS is a voluntary option available to students in grades TK - 6 who must miss school for unavoidable reasons (emergency or illness) and will be absent for at least three (3) and a maximum of ten (10) consecutive days. Requests beyond the ten (10) day maximum, but no more than 14 days, may be made due to special circumstances, but those requests must be approved by the school site principal in conjunction with the Director of Pupil Services. In the event of an emergency school closure, the minimum number of days for an independent study may be one (1) school day.
