Contract Type FiledJuly 24th, 2001In May 1997, ICMA and USAID created the Resource Cities Program (RCP) to improve the quality of local governments and to strengthen democracy through international municipal partnerships. The RCP builds relationships that enable management practitioners from the United States and city officials from developing and transitional countries to share resources and technical expertise that will improve the lives of the urban residents. The RCP reflects USAID’s priorities in the following strategic areas: to protect the environment for long-term sustainability, to strengthen democracy and good governance, to improve human health, to encourage broad-based economic growth, to build human capacity, and to alleviate suffering associated with natural or man-made disasters.
