If your employees must work overtime, you can either: Pay them at overtime rates on their next pay cheque; Enter an averaging agreement; or Establish a time bank. Overtime rates, averaging agreements, and time banks are subject to the requirements of the British Columbia Employment Standards Act. Averaging agreements Under Section 37 of the Act, you and your employees may agree to “average” overtime worked. This is often done where employees are required to work longer but fewer days, for example, in rotations of four 10-hour days. Each averaging agreement must meet certain rules set in Section 37.
