The Northern Ireland Audit Office (NIAO), headed by the Comptroller and Auditor General (C&AG), is an independent body which aims to provide effective support to the Northern Ireland Assembly in its task of holding Departments and their Agencies to account for their use of public money. In addition, it also aims to provide an effective local government audit service and support to Northern Ireland public sector bodies in their pursuit of improved financial reporting and value for money, including support for efforts to combat public sector fraud.
