Wessell Webling, His Indenture (1622)Indenture Agreement • May 25th, 2010
Contract Type FiledMay 25th, 2010During the 17th century, labor needs in the colonies were generally filled by indentured servants from England. In exchange for passage to the colonies, individual men and women signed themselves into virtual slavery, with the stipulation that once their terms of service were completed, they would receive “freedom dues”—land and tools—with which they could establish their own estates. Wesell Webling signed this three-year contract, which offered him passage to America as well as land when he completed his period of indenture.
