These negative effects can arise in unlikely ways, such as through the Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measure (“SPS”) Agreement. Increasing income disparity between “developed” and “undeveloped” countries is an unintended consequence of the inconsistent application of SPS Agreement’s restrictions on animal/animal product trade. This leads developed countries to generate more wealth. Even more, this causes developing countries to struggle with the effect of climate change. Inconsistent application of the SPS Agreement leads to several questions.
