Contract Type FiledMarch 1st, 2022On December 31, 2021, the Assembly of First Nations (AFN), the Government of Canada, and other Parties signed two Agreements- in-Principle (AIPs) outlining a framework toward reaching a settlement on long-term reform to end discrimination in the First Nations Child and Family Services (FNCFS) Program and Jordan’s Principle, and to pay compensation to those who have experienced discrimination in the FNCFS Program and through the federal government’s narrow application of Jordan’s Principle. The AFN is currently in negotiations with the Parties on the development of a Final Settlement Agreement, with agreements on compensation and long-term reform expected in 2022.
