Rehabilitation is integral to Universal Health Coverage (UHC), and demand for services is increasing with the health and epidemiologic trends that characterize the 21st century. However, many countries do not have the capacity to address the existing rehabilitation needs of their populations. Substantial unmet need for rehabilitation compromises the social and economic outcomes of healthcare and hinders the realization of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Achievement of SDG 3, ‘Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all across all ages’, can only be possible through UHC that is inclusive of rehabilitation. Further focus and prioritization of rehabilitation within health is urgently needed.
