Contract Type FiledJanuary 20th, 1998During the visit of Ms. Popovska, Mr. de Silguy expressed the Commission’s satisfaction with progress in economic stabilisation and reform achieved so far in the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia and welcomed the authorities’ determination to further stimulate market forces. He also noted that since the independence of the country, substantial progress has been made with democratisation and the development of good-neighbourly relations and regional co-operation in south-eastern Europe. While macro-financial assistance will help the country with pursuing its stability-oriented budgetary and monetary policy, EIB lending is expected to help the country to develop more intensively its transport infrastructure. Though a variety of instruments the EU is therefore contributing to strengthening domestic and foreign direct investment, in particular from the EU, stimulate growth and reduce unemployment on former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia.
