Contract Type FiledDecember 1st, 2017The United States entered into a free trade agreement with Mexico and Canada on January 1, 1994, commonly referred to as NAFTA, or the North American Free Trade Agreement. NAFTA created the world’s largest free trade area and largely because of this, Mexico and Canada are Nebraska’s two largest customers for agricultural goods. The American Farm Bureau Federation reports exports of Nebraska agricultural goods to these two countries exceeded $2.9 billion in 2016 and accounted for 45 percent of Nebraska’s total agricultural exports that year.
