These parcels were originally purchased by the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) to allow for the realignment of Interstate 74. Due to their inability to enter into certain lease agreements, the IDOT transferred title for this property to the Illinois Department of Conservation (now Illinois Department of Natural Resources) in 1970, allowing them to subsequently lease the property to the Peoria Park District.
