Since 2010, the European Patent Organization (EPO) has concluded Validation agreements with four non-member states – as tabulated below. A validation agreement with two these countries (Morocco [MA] and Moldova [MD]) has entered into force and a third is, at the date of this Note, about to enter into force (Tunisia [TN]). Whilst small in scale at present, the EPO’s exercise of the “Validation” initiative well beyond the geographic borders of Europe is becoming evident:
