In 1992, the Vector-Borne Disease Section (VBDS) entered into a Challenge Cost-Share Agreement with the Pacific Southwest Region (R5) of the United States Department of Agriculture Forest Service (USFS) to maintain cooperative surveillance and control of vector-borne diseases within the National Forests. The agreement also includes the development of training materials for use by USFS Safety Officers to educate USFS personnel, concessionaires, and the public.
