The Community Literacy Development Fund provides financial assistance to community organizations to develop and deliver local programs that will increase literacy skills and raise awareness of the importance of literacy. Literacy is a continuum, ranging from learning to read to developing a variety of skills necessary to succeed in the 21st century labour force and actively participate in society: reading text, interpreting documents, writing, oral communication, numeracy, problem-solving, computer use and team work. The Community Literacy Development Fund promotes literacy in classes, in the workplace, in the community, on the land and at home.
