The momentous agreement on climate action signed by world leaders in Paris in December provides a roadmap for significantly increased action to reduce harmful emissions and improve the resilience of developing countries already suffering from the impacts of climate change. The links between poverty, hunger and worsening climate impacts are recognised in the agreement and all countries are required to pursue efforts to ensure damaging increases in global temperatures do not exceed a safe limit of 1.5°C. The fact that government responses thus far have been insufficient has also been acknowledged and the need to build on commitments in Paris is accepted.
