Effective January 25, 2005, Dr. Josephine Piccone was appointed as Executive Assistant/Chief of Staff for Commissioner Peter B. Lyons. Dr. Piccone joined the NRC in 1985 as a Health Physicist in Region I. In 1990, she moved to Headquarters as a Senior Project Manager in the Office of Nuclear Material Safety and Safeguards (NMSS). Since 1993, she has held a number of supervisory and management positions in NMSS, including Section Leader; Chief, Operations Branch; Chief, Rulemaking and Guidance Branch; Deputy Director, Division of Fuel Cycle Safety and Safeguards; Deputy Director, Division of Industrial and Medical Nuclear Safety; and Deputy Director, Division of Waste Management. In 2002, she was appointed as Deputy Director, Office of State and Tribal Programs (STP). Dr. Piccone earned a B.S. degree in Chemistry from Daemen College, a M.S. degree in Radiological Health and a Ph.D. in Medical Radiation Physics from Temple University.
