New Directions: Remember that the word and means both. But when you link things with the word or, you are talking about just one. A compound subject (two or more) requires a plural verb (Mom and Maria wash the dishes every night.), but a single subject requires a singular verb (Mom or Maria washes the dishes every night). *Be careful!! If you have a singular subject joined with a plural subject using the word or, make the verb match with the closest subject!! Combine the following sentence parts, paying close attention to the verbs. Before you start, be sure to identify the verbs in each set of sentences.
