Contract Type FiledJanuary 23rd, 2011Phase Ib archaeological survey was conducted for Section 1 of the US 301 Project Development, located in St. Georges Hundred, New Castle County, Delaware. The proposed project consists of the construction of a limited access highway on new alignment. Field methods consisted primarily of pedestrian surface survey, together with shovel test and test unit excavations in wooded areas, in areas of potential buried soils, and at discovered archaeological sites. Field survey resulted in the identification of 19 historic resources, including 18 archaeological sites and one historic landscape feature. Three archaeological sites had only prehistoric components, eight sites had both prehistoric and historic components, and seven sites had only historic components. Five of the 18 archaeological sites are recommended not eligible on the basis of the Phase Ib survey. Phase II survey is recommended for 13 of the archaeological sites, to further evaluate their eligibility. Phase II survey is also reco
