MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING BETWEENOctober 10th, 2012
FiledOctober 10th, 2012This Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) among signatory organizations (signatories)1 representing professional lobbying advocates in various nations sets forth the mutual understandings and agreements among the signatories with regard to how they intend to work together to help strengthen and enhance the lobbying profession and the democratic process in their own countries and globally.2 The signatories believe that lobbying is an important part of the governmental process in all democracies and that individual citizens, businesses, nonprofit organizations, labor unions and other parties who are affected by government decisions have an inherent right to inform government officials and institutions of their views, concerns and interests regarding such decisions. Moreover, all such parties have a right to have a professional advocate, typically termed a “lobbyist,” assist them in communicating with public officials and governmental entities.
