It aspires to keep the global temperature below 2oC above the pre-industrial period and even limit it to 1.5oC if possible. However, there is an apprehension of low lying island countries getting submerged if the rise of temperature could not be controlled below 1.5oC. The scientific studies of IPCC reveal that 1o C rise in the temperature is seriously threatening the existence of islands nations, extreme cyclones, massive erosion of coastal regions and many more environmental dangers. Five islands of Maldives in Asia Pacific have completely submerged; Tuvalu a small island risks submersion by 2050 if temperature keeps rising at the same pace. Small islands and low lying coastal countries have formed a coalition known as the alliance of small islands states (AOSIS).
