In 1997 the EU and Mexico signed an2000 Economic Partnership, Political Coordination and Cooperation Agreement. Known as the Global Agreement, it included a part on trade, which mostly opened up trade in goods. This trade agreement came into force in 2000. The part of the agreement covering trade in services came into force in 2001. Now we are replacing the existing Global Agreement with a new one. Its trade part will open up the Mexican2018 market even more to EU exporters andinvestors and cover new areas likeservices and food and drink. The new Global Agreement will be the basis for the EU's future relationship with Mexico. In it the two sides also agree to: cooperate on issues like climate change and human rights work together on issues likecombating poverty or researching new medicines.
