In addition to preparing for the 2019 Novel Coronavirus, the public health emergencies of the past year— outbreaks of measles and hepatitis A,1 record heat, devastating hurricanes, lung illnesses associated with vaping, wildfires, and months of cascading flooding2 along the Missouri, Mississippi, and Arkansas rivers—all reinforced the need for every jurisdiction to be vigilant about preparing for emergencies.
