FiledJuly 17th, 2002Over seven years after its implementation, NAFTA remains unique in that it is the only trade agreement to address environmental concerns explicitly in an accompanying agreement. This accord, known as the North American Agreement on Environmental Cooperation (NAAEC), outlines environmental objec- tives, such as the promotion of sustainable develop- ment, enhancing compliance with and enforcement of environmental laws and regulations, and promoting policies and practices to prevent pollution.
