There is general agreement amongst the nations of the world that increasing amounts of carbon dioxide in the atmos- phere are effecting the world’s climate. One option is to eliminate the use of fossil fuels but this is probably not going to happen in the short term. Thus carbon capture has emerged as a possible means for cleaner combustion of carbon- based fuels. Carbon capture is the removal of carbon dioxide from flue gas before it has been emitted to the atmosphere. Once the carbon has been captured it can either be injected in suitable subsurface formations (Carbon Storage) or converted to useful products (Utilization).
