Contract Type FiledFebruary 13th, 2015Over the past 25 years, the Canada-Prince Edward Island Agreements on French-language services have contributed significantly to the development of quality services and programs in French by the Government of Prince Edward Island (P.E.I.). Since the signing of the last agreement (2009-2010 to 2012-2013), considerable progress has been made. That agreement made it possible to consolidate the efforts already being made by the Government of Prince Edward Island in relation to the delivery of French-language services and programs for the development of the Acadian and Francophone community (AFC). Notable progress has been made, the highlight being the renewal of the French Language Services Act. Initiatives launched under the most recent Canada-Prince Edward Island Agreement on French-Language Services include the development of new bilingual programs supporting the priority sector of tourism and the creation of new bilingual positions in the priority sectors of health and communications.
