Contract Type FiledAugust 30th, 2012A Heritage Conservation Easement is a legal agreement between a heritage property owner and the Town. Under the Ontario Heritage Act, the Town is entitled to enter into easements with owners of designated heritage properties for the conservation, preservation and protection of buildings of historic or architectural value or interest. When an owner signs an easement, the owner agrees to maintain the property to a recognized preservation standard. This agreement is registered on title and allows the owner of the property to ensure its preservation while retaining possession and use of the property. If the Heritage Tax Rebate Program is discontinued in the future, the Heritage Conservation Easement Agreement will still remain on title. This agreement will continue to ensure that the property’s heritage value is still maintained.
