Agreement between Tennessee’s Birth Statistical System and Pregnancy Risk Assessment Monitoring System for Surveillance of Diabetes Complicated Pregnancies Lindsey Jones, MPH; Yinmei Li, MD, PhD; David Law, PhDJune 23rd, 2011
FiledJune 23rd, 2011Although the percent agreement is high and there is a moderate Kappa value, we found a significantly higher prevalence of GDM in the PRAMS data compared to the BSS data which is consistent with other studies. This difference may be explained by potential measurement bias resulting from the wording of the PRAMS diabetes questions. It is possible that women with elevated blood sugar levels but not clinically diagnosed with GDM may incorrectly indicate that they have GDM on the PRAMS survey due to the use of the words “high blood sugar” to describe GDM (2).
