In 1976, the claimants, members of the Rolling Stones, entered into agreements with Decca and a bank, Leopold Joseph & Sons, to ensure that royalties earned on recordings should be paid to Leopold Joseph. Clause 6 of the agreements gave each member the right to appoint an auditor and to request the production of documents. Clause 7 referred disputes to arbitration, but limited the remedies to damages.
