It is the intent of the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences (CEAS) at WMU that all Research Centers within CEAS will actively seek funding from external grant agencies that pays graduate student stipend and tuition costs, and that generates indirect cost recovery to the University and to the College. This will enhance the research reputation of the College and WMU, and help to build graduate programs across the College. No Research Center should be focusing the bulk of their efforts on performing Non Sponsored Activities. An effective Research Center should be a mechanism for promoting and engaging in research activities within and across disciplines, and as an entity seeking and successfully obtaining external funding for sponsored research projects under the mechanisms or oversight procedures from the WMU Office of the Vice-President for Research (OVPR).
