This project is a collaborative international effort between multiple institutions to validate an improved classification system for choroidal and ciliary body melanomas based on tumor size and anatomic extent. The new classification is similar to the current American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) staging system but modifies size categories by estimating tumor volume and reclassifies tumors with ciliary body involvement or extraocular extension into a common subcategory, rather than two separate ones. This new classification has already been developed and validated using data from 6,528 patients across three institutions in Europe and the US.1 We now aim to validate the classification using non- overlapping patients from multiple institutions and invite researchers in the field to contribute.
