Contract Type FiledMarch 1st, 2016The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) provides reimbursement to eligible sponsors supporting summer programs that serve children in low-income areas in which at least 50 percent of local schoolchildren are certified eligible free or reduced priced when school is not in session. The SSO provides free, nutritious meals to children in low-income areas when they are out of school for at least 15 continuous school days at sites located in an area. Summer food service program meals are available to children through age 18 (individuals of any age if disabled). These benefits are available through the California Department of Education (CDE), Seamless Summer Option (SSO). Agencies that already have children attending educational, enrichment, and recreational activities, can be an SSO meal service site.
