In 2006, the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) approached Pottawatomie County about being a lead local sponsor for a study of the US 24 Corridor from Manhattan to Wamego. Early in 2007, Pottawatomie County invited the cities of Manhattan, Wamego, and St. George to meet with KDOT to discuss the outline of an agreement for funding the proposed Corridor Management Study. The study corridor was defined as one (1) mile on either side of US 24 from Tuttle Creek Boulevard (TCB) east 13 miles, terminating at Airport Road east of Wamego and including McCall Road from TCB east to US 24 (East Poyntz Avenue).
