THIS AGREEMENT, dated the 1st day of December, 2000 is made and entered into by and between THE NEW ECONOMY FUND, a Massachusetts business trust, (hereinafter called the "Trust"), and CAPITAL RESEARCH AND MANAGEMENT COMPANY, a Delaware corporation, (hereinafter called the "Investment Adviser").
