Aortic Surgery definition

Aortic Surgery means the undergoing of Surgery for disease of the aorta requiring excision and surgical replacement of any part of the diseased aorta with a graft. Aorta refers to the thoracic and abdominal aorta but not its branches.Exclusion: No benefit will be payable under this condition for any of the following: angioplasty; intra-arterial procedures; percutaneous trans-catheter procedures; non-surgical procedures.

Aorta means the thoracic and abdominal aorta but not its branches. The surgery must be determined to be medically necessary by a specialist.

Aortic Surgery means the actual undergoing of surgery via thoracotomy or laparotomy to repair or correct an aortic aneurysm, an obstruction of the aorta or a coarctation of the aorta. For the purpose of this definition, aorta shall mean the thoracic and abdominal aorta but not its branches. ‘Minimally invasive’, ‘keyhole’ surgery or surgery performed using catheter only techniques are specifically excluded.

  • Cosmetic Surgery means any Surgery, service, Drug or supply designed to improve the appearance of an individual by alteration of a physical characteristic which is within the broad range of normal but which may be considered unpleasing or unsightly, except when necessitated by an Injury.

  • Stationary beam radiation therapy means radiation therapy without displacement of one or more mechanical axes relative to the patient during irradiation.

  • Ambulatory surgical center means any public or private State licensed and approved (whenever required by law) establishment with an organized medical staff of Physicians, with permanent facilities that are equipped and operated primarily for the purpose of performing Surgical Procedures, with continuous Physician services and registered professional nursing service whenever a patient is in the facility, and which does not provide service or other accommodations for patients to stay overnight.

  • Reconstructive breast surgery means surgery performed as a result of a mastectomy to reestablish symmetry between the two breasts and includes augmentation mammoplasty, reductive mammoplasty, and mastopexy.

  • Elective Surgery means non-emergency surgery which is medically necessary, but can be delayed for at least 24 hours.

  • Radiation therapy simulation system means a radiographic or fluoroscopic x-ray system intended for localizing the volume to be exposed during radiation therapy and confirming the position and size of the therapeutic irradiation field.

  • Participating Home Infusion Therapy Provider means a Home Infusion Therapy Provider who has a written agreement with the Claim Administrator or another Blue Cross and/or Blue Shield Plan to provide services to you at the time services are rendered.

The medical review and direction included in an assisted outpatient treatment plan shall be provided under the supervision of a psychiatrist.

  • Nursing home-type patients means a patient who has been in hospital more than 35 days, no longer requires acute hospital care, cannot live independently at home or be looked after at home, and either cannot be placed in a nursing home or a nursing home place is not available.

  • Behavioral therapy means interactive therapies derived from evidence-based research, including applied behavior analysis, which includes discrete trial training, pivotal response training, intensive intervention programs, and early intensive behavioral intervention.
